Welcome

From 5 to 21 September 2008

Is it possible to resist the charms of the perfect marriage between classical music and the breathtaking Alps?

It was four years ago that musicians from the prestigious Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra first came to Zermatt – like Pablo Casals a half of a century earlier – to take up residence at the foot of the Matterhorn for two weeks at summer’s end. For four years they have offered enthusiastic audiences the opportunity to hear some of the most beautiful works of music in combination with the countless attractions that this beautiful site in the Alps offers.

The Scharoun Ensemble Berlin and the Zermatt Chamber Orchestra (a formation of the Academy that runs parallel to the festival) will once again be part of the festivities in 2008, as well as the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, which will set off the initial fireworks for the second year in succession under the direction of Christian Zacharias. Among the newcomers: the Baroque ensemble Capriccio Stravagante and Skip Sempé with a programme for two and three harpsichords, and violinist Corey Cerovsek.

More than just a series of concerts, the Zermatt Festival is a timeless journey.
